We are a new independent, Christian church in the Wasatch Front, established 2013.

But the story goes back further than that.

In 2002, a group of prominent Christian leaders gathered in Utah to pray for new churches in Utah. Churches that would teach the Bible; churches that would teach following Jesus as the only way, truth, and life in God; churches that would embody God's kingdom in grace and truth. They prayed that year - and continued to pray frequently and fervently - for churches that would plant other churches.

In 2010, Brent Captain, a church pastor in Florida, and his family heard about the need for churches like the kind described above. Their prayers were complementary to those prayers 8 years earlier: That God would lead them to a place where people needed to hear the gospel. Within a year, Brent came on staff at Roy Christian Church in Roy, UT, beginning their love for Utah, and longing for people in this community to know Jesus.

This is where the next chapter at Salt began.

In 2012, Brent invited several other families to join him and his family to form a "core group" in planting a church in northern Davis Co. The next year, two other families, Louie and Lisa Captain (Brent's parents) and Jake and Katie Muller came on staff with the church, and Salt finalized external support with many of our strategic financial partners.

Our "Grand Opening" took place on September 15, 2013, in Layton, UT, and God's been blessing us with many awesome new faces and families at church since then.

Our name

Our name, Salt, comes from Matthew 5:13, where Jesus is telling his disciples they are the "Salt of the earth." In Jesus' day, salt was a valuable asset (we believe Jesus is worth everything). Salt was a staple (we believe the Bible is for day-to-day life). Salt was a preservative (we believe grace saves our lives). Salt was a flavoring (we believe everyone should have a taste of who God is).
